YOU NEED TO EAT BREAKFAST! Many people think that skipping breakfast saves calories but you’re really just hurting yourself. Eating in the morning breaks you body’s fasting cycle that it falls into while you sleep (hence the term breakfast...). This early morning nutrition actually makes your metabolism work faster meaning you burn MORE calories. When you skip meals or eat less then you should be your body goes into starvation mode and starts storing carbs, fats, etc. I am always running late in the morning which means all my meals are very quick. Here’s my favorite healthy morning eats!!!
WHAT I EAT:
This cereal is a much better (and tastier) alternative to granola! Also Dannon Light & Fit is one of the few yogurts that you should be eating because most have hidden sugars that can ultimately lead to packing on the pounds. I eat one container of yogurt with 1/4 cup of the cereal, raisins, and a chopped up banana. Depending on the season I may toss in some strawberries or blueberries. P.S. keep an eye out for Kashi products at Walmart and and Trader Joe's because they are far cheaper there than at Giant or Weis.
This cereal is amazing and reminds me of Captain Crunch! This fulfills my sugary cereal cravings without ruining my "diet". I eat this with one chopped up banana or a handful of no sugar added freeze dried bananas (if your getting freeze dried food there should only be ONE ingredient on the food label).
This is by far my favorite oatmeal ever! It's only $1.99 or $2.99 at Trader Joe's which is really cheap compared to other popular name-brand cereals. Eat your oatmeal with either milk or soy milk NOT water because most females don't get enough calcium which is very important the older we get. Try to stick to fat-free milk.
These are terrific I promise! I know they sound gross...vitatop...but they are really yummy. The are a bit expensive ($4 and some change for 4) but I don't eat them every day so I can justify it. These keep my fuller longer than oatmeal or eggs. I eat one of these with a banana. I try to eat my fruit in the morning if you couldn't tell!
This is great toast bread. Only 45 calories per slice! For better deals on Pepperidge Farm products look online to see if you have any outlet stores by you. There's one by my mom and the deals are great!
I also eat a lot of egg whites with chopped up bell pepper, mushrooms, and onion. If I have leftover asparagus from last nights dinner I chop that up and toss it in. I also really enjoy making egg white sandwiches: Whole wheat English muffin, one egg white, a slice of fat-free American cheese, and a homemade turkey sausage (recipe at the end).
WHAT I DRINK:
Tastes like a cappuccino! Zero calories and the warmth revs up your metabolism! Look for these teas a Walmart because Giant completely rips you off. I pay half the price at Walmart.
This is a wonderful clean tasting tea. Perfect for the fall :)
I'm not a fan of fruit juices but I absolutely love vegetable juice! The low sodium version is the best for you because as we all know salt cases bloating and other nasty side effects. This is a great way to get your veggies out of the way if you don't eat them throughout the day like I do.
HOMEMADE TURKEY SAUSAGE (the grocery stores have blow up food so I make my own!):
1/2 lb extra-lean ground turkey
1 tbsp minced yellow onion
1 1/2 tsp minced garlic
1/2 tsp thyme
1/4 tsp sage
1/4 tsp cayenne
1/4 tsp black peper
*you can add 1/8 tsp salt if you like but I leave salt out 99% of the time when I cook.
Mix ingrediants in a bowl. 1/4 cup of this mixture is one serving. I personally scoop, press, and freeze them but you can cook them then freeze the extra. I use a biscut cutter to molde the meat and then put a picec of freezer paper between each patty then stick 'um in a freezer bag. Each patty is about 80 calories and 1.25 grams saturated fat. Using pork instead of turky will make this even leaner: 72 calories, 1 gram saturated fat. This is great considering most store bought turkey sausage patties have 120 calories and 4 grams of saturated fat.
