Favorite Foundations

Everyone should have at least one foundation that they love in their makeup collection. I personally have four in my collection at most times. The reason I have four is because I like to have different types of formulas and coverage at hand so I can decide which would be the best fit the look that I’m doing that day or which would apply the best with the condition that my skin is in. I started wearing foundation as a sophomore in high school and I am now a senior in college so I have tried many different foundations in my time. The four listed below are my Holy Grail foundations.
Revlon ColorStay Liquid Foundation ($10 at Walmart)
This is a medium coverage foundation that can be built up to full coverage. I love this foundation because it covers well, applies beautifully, lasts throughout the day, has SPF 15, and has a dry skin or oily skin option. This foundation does have a slight yellow base which is perfect for me because I have yellow undertones but if you have pink undertones you may want to reconsider purchasing this foundation. My favorite way to apply this foundation is with a wet sponge.
**If you will be having photos taken avoid makeup with SPF in it because it can give a white cast.

CoverGirl Trublend Whipped Foundation
Unfortunately I believe that CoverGirl has stopped producing this product so if you can find one in a store still stock up. I have to backup ones yet that I got at Weis on clearance for $2. Unlike the ColorStay foundation, this has a very natural undertone. The foundation applies flawlessly and has a medium to full coverage. You absolutely must set this foundation with either a translucent or tinted setting powder or it will crease. I like to apply this foundation with my ELF flat top powder brush (used as a stippling brush).

Bare Escentuals bareMinerals SPF 15 Original Foundation ($25 at Sephora)
This is the first foundation I ever used and I can’t tell you how many of these I have gone through. My mom bought it for me in high school because my skin had just started to calm down from those awkward puberty years and she wanted to get something that was good for my skin. Although I always recommend removing your makeup before bed it’s not a biggie if you forget to when you’re wearing this foundation. Despite how much I LOVE all of these foundations this is the ONLY one that I receive complements on for how good my skin looks when I’m wear foundation. I know this is on the pricey side but if you are looking for a powder/mineral foundation you really must try this out. I typically apply this foundation on days when I’m feeling lazy. It’s super easy to apply; you just need a kabuki brush to buff the powder in. With that said I would not recommend this product for people with dry skin because the buffing does cause some micro-exfoliation. I have very dry skin in the winter but during the summer its more “normal” and I can use this product without looking flaky.

Laura Mercier Silk Crème Foundation ($42 at Sephora)
I’m not even going to lie, this is an expensive foundation BUT I purchased this tube in February and I still have about a third of it left. It is an investment so you do want to make sure you get the right color but you need such a small amount that it lasts forever. This is a full coverage foundation that is thicker than a traditional liquid foundation but not quite as thick as a mouse foundation. The formula is super creamy and the color lasts all day. I use this foundation about four times a week and I just apply it with my finger tips.

I hope this has helped introduce you to some wonderful foundations that you might not have heard about or wanted to try but just needed a little extra boost. As you can probably tell from some of my posts that my collection does consists of both high-end and drugstore makeup and all sorts of different brands. I like to use the products that I think work the best and all high-end products aren’t amazing, some are downright crappy. So what I’m trying to say here is that price doesn’t equal quality. So if you purchase most or all of your makeup from the drugstore that’s perfectly fine because there are so many wonderful products available there. I will be writing a “Favorite Drugstore Products” post after I move so keep an eye out for that!
